Hartley High is the fictional high school setting of the first five series of Heartbreak High (1994) and the setting of Heartbreak High (2022).
In Heartbreak High the school is shut down after series five, and its remaining students are transferred to nearby Hartley Heights.
Students and Faculty (1994)[]
Class of 1995–1996[]
These students are depicted in the first series as being in Year 11 and between 16 to 17 years
old, before beginning their senior year and preparing for their HSC exams from series two.
The show then follows a floating timeline, with series two and three (which first aired from May 28 to November 26, 1995) covering the first half of the school year, and series four and the first six episodes of series five (which first aired from June 16, 1996 to February 24, 1997) covering the second half of the school year. Episode 79 establishes the year as 1996, although this slightly contradicts earlier episodes.

Rose transfers schools early into Year 12, while Jodie, Rivers, Steve and Con are written off the show midway through the year.
Allie and Danielle leave Hartley for job opportunities just weeks before the HSC. Of the class, only Katerina, Matt, Bolton, Declan, Stassy and Charlie sit for their HSC exams.
Matt is the only student to pass and graduate, with Katerina and Charlie deciding to repeat the year to get better results. Bolton leaves for Canberra before getting his results, Declan doesn't finish his exams, and Stassy fails her HSC, deciding to leave Sydney to travel for a year with Matt instead of returning to school.
Class of 1996–1997[]
A new school year begins from the eighth episode of series five onwards. Due to the show's floating timeline, only a year has passed within the show (although it would air from March 3, 1997 to June 18, 1997).
