Jodie Cooper is a series regular in series one through three of Heartbreak High. She is portrayed by Abi Tucker.
Heartbreak High (1994–1995)[]
Jodie Cooper is a talented and ambitious singer-songwriter and student new to Hartley High, who is eager to break into the music industry. She is estranged from her divorced parents, and lives in an apartment with her 25-year-old sister Karen.
Storylines[]
Jodie starts dating Nick Poulos in Episode 2, and the first series chronicles the ups-and-downs of their relationship, including his family's concerns when the two start having sex, and Jodie's infidelity while she is away on tour in Melbourne. The demands of her career cause a strain on the relationship and they eventually break up in Episode 20, when she discovers him cheating with Danielle.
Jodie is managed by Con, and early episodes of the series focus on his many attempts to kickstart her music career. In Episode 26, she moves out of her sister's apartment and into The Warehouse with Steve and Rivers. To make ends meet, she works as a waitress at Ruby's, and later at The Shark Pool.
Jodie and Nick get back together from Episode 28, however his refusal to give up on his boxing career drives her into the arms of his cousin, Rocco in Episode 36. She and Rocco get engaged, and he gets her a gig singing backup for a band about to go on tour. However, at the airport while heading for America in Episode 38, she sees Nick in his first professional fight on television and instantly regrets her decision, running back to Nick only to watch him die in the ring.
Jodie is devastated by Nick's death, and when new student Matt Logan shows an interest in her in Episode 46, she is unable to commit. Instead, he briefly dates her sister Karen, who has moved herself into the Warehouse, before Jodie's jealously forces her to admit her feelings for Matt. The two begin a relationship, and Jodie kicks her sister out in Episode 50.
Jodie and Matt break up in Episode 60. Jodie then develops a friendship with Tim Beckett, a washed up singer and struggling alcoholic performing at the Shark Pool, who helps her secure a record deal.
Jodie quits school in Episode 63 to pursue music full time. Her first single initially struggles to get airplay, however Con and Matt turn it into a hit by broadcasting their signal over the commercial stations. Jodie becomes famous overnight, and her label gets her a promotional tour. She returns to Hartley one last time in Episode 65, delivering a passionate speech which saves the school from closure.
Where Are They Now?[]
"(Jodie) is busy becoming London's "next big thing". She's on the publicity circuit promoting her recently released CD, keeping fifteen year old fans at bay and yearning every now and again for the carefree days at Hartley High."[1]
