Rose Malouf is a series regular in series one through two of Heartbreak High. She is portrayed by Katherine Halliday.
The Heartbreak Kid (1993)[]
The character is partially based on Maria, also played by Katherine Halliday, from the 1993 film The Heartbreak Kid. Maria is one of Nick's friends, and a student at his inner city Melbourne school.
Heartbreak High (1994–1995)[]
Rosette "Rose" Malouf is a smart and passionate Lebanese-Australian student at Hartley High. She is an aspiring lawyer and runs the school's newspaper. She lives with her father Frank in a very traditional and strict Lebanese household. She is best friends with Danielle Miller.
Storylines[]
Rose develops a crush on the new drama teacher Phil North, however he leaves school before anything happens between them, after admitting to an affair with a student at his previous school.
Rose eventually begins a relationship with Jack in Episode 16, much to her father's disapproval. They break up in Episode 21 when Jack gets into a selective school and leaves Hartley.
In Episode 22, Rose announces to the class that she is pregnant with Jack's child, and that she will be raising it alone. The rest of series one chronicles her struggles as a teen mother, including having to step down as Class Captain after complaints from parents, and fighting with her father and Deloraine to stay in school.
Rose gives birth to a daughter, Tess, in Episode 37 in the Science room at school, helped by Deloraine and Rivers, who she subsequently names as the child's godparents.
Rose initially refuses to have Jack in her daughter's life, however after having a fling with Con in Episode 46, she realises she still has feelings for Jack. Jack proposes to her in Episode 48. They marry in Episode 49 and Rose transfers to his school, leaving Hartley.
